overview

Moses Missionary Baptist Church was organized more than 110 years ago as a small Sunday service meeting at Hattie McCollough Hall which was the initial name of the church.  Today, Moses Missionary Baptist Church, located at 112 Walker Street in Augusta, Georgia, is ministering to five generations under the leadership of our senior pastor and teacher Rev. Jamaal Wilcher.  We welcome those in the CSRA to join us and experience our authentic worship experience and take part in our life-giving ministry.  As we share the Gospel of Jesus Christ, our purpose is to connect the heart of people to the heart of God.

OUR HISTORY

Under the leadership of the first pastor, Reverend J.H. Welborne, Moses Missionary Baptist Church was formed more than 110 years ago as a small Sunday service meeting at Hattie McCollough Hall which was the initial name of the church.  The church was organized on February 21, 1907.

Some of the former pastors include Rev. John Towers, Rev. W.H. Moody, Rev. Robert B. Bush, Sr., Rev. R.S. Dean, Rev. Milton Key, Rev. Grady Wilker, Jr., Rev. Willie A. Green, and Rev. Corey D. Brown.

Moses made unprecedented advancements under Rev. Robert B. Bush, Sr. by laying the groundwork for building a new sanctuary through corporate capital initiatives, spiritual reorganization and leadership enhancements.

On December 27, 1981 a ground breaking service was held to mark the start of construction on a new building.  Nearly 10 months later on September 17, 1982 the church occupied its new building under Rev. R.S. Dean’s leadership.

Rev. Corey D. Brown was instrumental in the advancement of Moses Missionary Baptist Church.  Elected as pastor on November 6, 2010, Rev. Brown led the church to new heights through offering ministry compatible with the twenty-first century.

In June 2015, Rev. Corey Brown resigned as pastor and Moses Missionary Baptist Church began its search for a new pastor.  A pulpit committee was formed and commenced a seven-month search for a new pastor.  In February 2016, God sent a Spirit-filled man in the person of Rev. Jamaal Wilcher and on May 29, 2016, he was installed as the 10th pastor of the church.  In his first year, Pastor Wilcher casted a purpose statement that now guides the ministry of the church, “We are connecting the heart of people to the heart of God.”  In his first year as Senior Pastor, Pastor Wilcher has led Moses through a rebranding project, introduced multiple ways of giving, more than 70 new members, and facility upgrades.  A youth church experience has been launched and is currently serving more than 50 young people.  Moses has great expectation for the future under Pastor Wilcher’s leadership and declares, “The best is yet to come.”

As its name suggests, Moses Missionary Baptist Church seeks to impart the principles of the Kingdom and mobilize people to walk into their promise.  The church welcomes those in the CSRA and beyond to worship God, share the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and do the business of the Kingdom until he comes.
